Is Your Agent Familiar With Your Area?
05-29-08
When hiring a real estate agent you want to find one that is familiar with the area in which you are buying or selling. In other words, if you want to buy a home on the east side of a city you should find an agent that specializes in the area. This is not something that you necessarily have to do, but it is a very good idea. After all, it will improve your chances of success.
How do you know if an agent is familiar with a particular area? There are two ways that you can do this:
1. You can simply ask a real estate agent if they have ever listed homes in the area. Better yet, you can ask them what they are listing right now. If all of their homes are in the area of interest you have hit the jackpot.
2. If you don't want to ask a real estate agent for one reason or the next, see if they have a website and check for their property listings. As mentioned above, this will give you the information you need to decide if you are hiring the right agent.
Keep in mind that finding a real estate agent that is familiar with a particular area is not always necessary. Again, you need to make sure that you have a good relationship with your agent; that is the most important thing. Even if an agent specializes in your area, if they are not going to mesh well with your personality you will want to continue your search. It is much better to work with somebody who you will get along with on a consistent basis.
If at all possible, hire a real estate agent that knows the area you are interested in. This will definitely make things easier on you because they will know what to expect as far as the market and prices are concerned. Just keep in mind that familiarity with a particular area is not the only thing to consider. You also want to hire an agent who you like as a person, as well as one who has a style that you agree with.
