Should You Pull Your Home Off The Market?
05-28-08
When the real estate market is in the middle of a recession you may be tempted to pull your home. In other words, a recession may force you into taking your home off the market and waiting until a later date in order to sell it. The question is: is this a good idea, or should you stick with your initial thought? As you can imagine, there are both pros and cons of pulling your home off the market during a recession.
The real estate market is not one that is going to be steady at all times. There is a chance that you could put your home up for sale when the market is in good shape, but sooner rather than later, a recession sets in. As you can see, the market has changed right in front of your eyes, and you are now in a position where you have to make a decision.
There is really no benefit of pulling your home off the market during a real estate recession. If you think about it, the only reason to do this would be if you were starting to get annoyed or extremely stressed out by the process. When your home is for sale you do not really need to do anything except wait for potential buyers. If a recession is keeping them away, then so be it. You can simply sit back and wait for the real estate market in your area to sure itself up. Sure, this could take a while, but what do you care?
In many cases, it can be a bigger pain to take your home off the market, and then re-list it when a recession ends. You are probably better off letting well enough alone for the time being. Of course, if you have a change of heart you will definitely want to consider what is going on. You do not want to continue trying to sell your home if you have decided that this is no longer the best decision.
Overall, consider the pros and cons of taking your home off the market during a recession. You may want to stick it out for now so that you can give yourself the best chance of a sale as the days go by. Remember, when your home is not for sale there is no way to get rid of it!
