A good relationship with your agent starts when you make a decision on who to work with. As you can imagine, there are some agents that will suit your buying or selling style as well as your personality. But on the other side of things, there are agents that you will not connect with. As you can imagine, you do not want to get involved with somebody like that. If you do, it is safe to say that you will find yourself in a difficult position for the foreseeable future.

How can you make the most out of your relationship? Once you choose an agent, you want to more or less become friends with them on a business level. This does not mean that you need to become personal friends, but you should at least feel comfortable around them. This way you will not feel out of place asking them for help when need be, or calling with questions at all hours of the day. Finally, make sure that you always keep the lines of communication open with your real estate agent. The biggest mistake that you could make is to think that your agent knows what you want. You need to make yourself clear when asked questions, and always double check what you are doing. When you leave it up to your agent to make decisions, you never know if they will do what you want. Instead of taking this risk, make sure that your agent is comfortable confirming every decision with you before acting.

All in all, a solid relationship with your real estate agent will make the home buying or selling process much more enjoyable for both parties. This all starts with choosing the right agent, and follows up with communicating on a regular basis.
